Well, we made it through week one of the One Room Challenge!! If you missed our first post of the challenge, check it out here.
It was so inspiring to see all the other guest participants designs and of course the featured designers, as well. Be sure to have a look on the One Room Challenge (ORC) Blog site to see all the amazing projects going on the next 5 weeks.
Wow, I still can’t believe we are all finished with the first week. I had big plans for week one and about 50% of it all got done. This week was all about preparing my room to get it ready for all the projects I have planned. I started by removing all of the amazing blue carpet by cutting it into sections so I could easily remove it from the house.
The room is finally completely empty at this point which is super exciting, because if you forgot already it was really a hoarders paradise. After looking at the closet in here, I felt compelled to tackle all the stuff I have put in there, which was no small task and not on my to-do list for this week, but it was speaking to me. I went through the entire closet and organized all the small crafting “things” into multiple sized clear jars to add some dimension and organization…I have big plans for all of these later on in the room, so keep watching to see where they all end up. Then I removed the closet door to get ready for the barn door I plan on making and installing really soon!!
Next, I primed the built-ins currently in the space and started to really hone in on my exact accent color. Picking the perfect color is always a difficult task. It seems to always be off by just a shade. So that is my #1 priority on next weeks list. I have several samples up and can’t wait to make a final decision. Let’s hope it sticks, I always hate repainting, but it happens more times then I would like to mention.
Painting was the biggest task on my to-do list this week…I used my handy paint sprayer to get a nice, even finish on the walls and trim. Love that guy, once I get it working. I think my favorite part of this week was when I was painting the room with my paint gun and removed the door handle to really get the door painted nicely. Somehow not thinking, maybe I should open the door first so I can get out! Well, long story short thank goodness I was on the first floor and there was a window. 😉 I’m pretty sure my neighbors think I’m totally a weirdo. Oh well, the room is painted and already looking so much brighter and airer.

Just a quick reminder, because it’s always helpful to remember where you started at!
Such a fun week, can’t wait to get started on my next To-Do list. Hope you are enjoying following along!
