If the Home Depot asks the question, “Do you have a dream project?” Umm…yasssss!!! will be my answer every. single. time. That is the understatement of a lifetime. The real question is which dream project???
After being stationed all over the world, living in 8 different rentals/base housing for the last 15 years, I have a giant rolodex of dream projects just waiting to become a reality. I have been dreaming of the day that I would have a home to call my own. A year and a half ago that big dream finally came true, only problem the house wasn’t even close to what my dreams looked like. Well, what do I always say to my kids – you get what you get and you don’t get upset. Ha…easier said then done, right? Even my 5 year old can vouch for that, but more times then not everything happens for a reason.
In the process of trying to make our first home everything I dreamed of with the tiniest of budgets, remember I am a stay-at-home mom and a military spouse after all, I truly found my absolute passion! Who would have thought that renovating my house and DIY-ing would be beyond rewarding, satisfying and bring me so much joy. Things I never thought I was capable of doing, I’ve learned. Tools I never knew of or even considered using I have mastered. I think I may have even inspired a few people along the way. All of this has lead me right here…sharing my dream project with you. So here we go!
I know…I know…It’s hard to tell any difference between my inspirational photo and my reality! I’m sure you can guess my number one dream project by these photos. It would be to make a Magical Outdoor Oasis, for my whole family to enjoy! Somewhere we can all hangout, play, eat, laugh and enjoy the comforts of our own backyard. I mean who wouldn’t want an amazing outdoor space like that??
Right now, the space lacks any kind of spark and is a blank slate waiting to be transformed. Guess who is totally ready to make that happen, Home Depot and I. 😉 We’ve have all seen the Pinterest Outdoor Spaces, that is what I am envisioning for my dream project. So why not turn my dream into a reality! There are so many DIY’s that I would like to tackle in this outdoor living space and who doesn’t love seeing girls tackling projects with Power tools?
First and probably the biggest, would be a DIY Pergola attached to the back of the house. I would also like to add clear roofing panels to the Pergola, so everything would be protected from the elements and the space could be used all year long without loosing the natural light. Now, no Pergola is complete without hanging twinkling lights, of course. I would love tons of seating and space to hangout, that looks appealing to the eye, but also beyond comfortable. My plan would be to make a DIY Sectional seating space with tons of pillows and add two hanging swings on the opposite side of the sectional seating suspended from the Pergola roof. The hanging swings would add a more modern twist to the deck space.
Incorporating tons of greenery in the space will keep it modern and fresh. I am planning to make large rectangle DIY Cement Planters edging the deck space filled with bushy greenery adding a cactus as part of the greenery in a feature wall attached to the back of the house. I am currently working on a DIY Coffee Table, made with pallets and a concrete top. The coffee table will also have an element of surprise with a fire pit on the center. The concrete in the planters and table top will tie the space together nicely.
My color scheme is black, white and gray with hints of natural wood and lots of greenery. The space should feel modern, chic and most importantly cozy. Thanks for taking the time to listen to my dream project. I would absolutely love to partner with The Home Depot and am ready to give my all to this amazing project. Below I am including my design board with a few inspirational photos and some of my favorite Home Depot products that I would love to include in my space. Also included is a design drawing, it’s not the best…I’m no professional, but just a glimpse of the general layout.
Below is my price budget itinerary, including all the supplies I would need to build all my projects and decor to finish and style the space.
