Well, we are literally in the middle of our 9th move in 18 years or so. I feel like I should be an expert by now, but I actually learn something new each and every time the Army decides it is time for us to move to a new City or a new Country for that matter. This might, dare I say be our last move, at least that is what the husband is saying. I am not sure I quite believe that yet. Moving has opened my eyes to so much and I have enjoyed seeing the US and some of the World. I cannot even imagine living in one place for more then 3 years…Yikes!! My kids on the other hand are looking forward to keeping their friends and staying put for a while and I can’t blame them. So, Texas, hope you are ready for us to stay a while!!
While Jessie has been busy slaving away on her beautiful One Room Challenge (ORC) Workspace (check out it out here), things over here have been getting very interesting. It looks like the Army has finally given us the official word that our family is on the move yet again this summer to the great state of Texas. This is, according to my husband, the last move. We will see how that goes…tune back in about 2 years from now to see if this is true!!
Anyways, with a big move comes lots and lots of logistical stuff that must be taken care of. First up on our long list, a big one, is a home search. Yes, we are going to be homeowners again. So exciting and a little bit daunting…but it will be nice to have our own space again after renting for the last 2 years and the 3 before that in a tiny German apartment.
Well, it has been almost two months since I started my KonMari journey. And it has most definitely been a journey…filled with lots of trash, recycles and so much organizing. All we have left is the garage, and maybe some photo keepsakes. I fully blame my husband and the fact that it is just plain cold outside in the winter to be organizing a garage as to why we haven’t gotten to that part of the house. The photos, well that is all me, they are so distracting and then I get so sad my kids are so grown up!!
A few months ago, I started reading about the Marie Kondo method but it seemed very overwhelming at the time. Now she is everywhere I turn, Netflix, Instagram, the Today show. It seems like a sign I should get it together and start decluttering. With a move in my near future possible, what better time to start??? Armed with the book and a warning to my family to hold on to anything that brings them joy, I started KonMaring my house. Hopefully you too will be inspired and join me in this challenge…I am planning 6-8 weeks to get the whole house decluttered….I feel cleaner already 😉
Cookie exchanges are very popular during the holiday season and it is always a challenge to come up with new and different cookies for each exchange. I saw this recipe on a morning talk show a really long time ago and I have made it almost every year since. These almond cookies are so delicious…almost like a shortbread, which I love. Not to mention they go great with coffee!!
