DIY Unicorn Valentine Card

Well, it is that time of year again ♥ Valentine’s Day ♥. It always creeps up on me and I am running to the store at the last minute looking for those little cards to send into the classroom and all that is left is organic healthy snacks or fun dip. So, I end up on Pinterest frantically trying to find something easy but cute to make. This year is a little bittersweet for me. It is my last classroom Valentine’s day party. My youngest will be in middle school next year and it is just not cool anymore to give cards, I guess. According to my daughter she will just have a real Valentine next year…Yikes!!!

Modern Twist on Valentine’s Day

❤️ Modern Twist on Valentine’s Day ❤️

This year for Valentine’s Day, I wanted to add a Modern twist to my decor. I thought it would be fun to try something a little different from the traditional red, pink and hearts but also, still stay true to the holiday’s fun, flirty style. I did a background of black and white, with pops of color using mostly pink and green. Then added lots of unique, easy and creative DIY’s that everyone can do. Also, remember it’s all about the details! If you look careful at all the pictures the final touches really finish off each space! 😉

DIY Gossip Bench with Fusion Mineral Paint

Ever since our Flohmarkt days in Germany, I have been looking for the perfect entryway bench. I found a few benches in Germany but something was always not quite right, i.e. too big, expensive, ornate, or just not what I envisioned. While looking through Facebook marketplace (my new favorite pastime), I came across gossip benches…and I love them so much!! The little seat and shelf is so cute and unique. One just so happened to pop up so I snagged it…super lucky! I thought this would be a great project to paint and try out a new paint I had been checking out at a local store.

Stairway Transformation

So, this year my New Year’s resolution is to finish any project I start. I struggle with this constantly, because I always have my next project in mind and just can’t wait to get to move on to the next one. My stairway would be a victim of this crime. I worked so hard on this stairway for so long and if you see it in the all my photos you would never know that it’s really not finished. Now that is a skill, if I say so myself! So, it’s the New Year and that means it’s time to get to work finishing all my unfinished projects.

The last step left for the stairway was the banister and beams. If you look at the bottom picture, I primed them along time ago, before I even started sanding the steps. It was originally a yellow color…Yikes!! Let’s get this bad boy all finished!!!

Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to see my easy go-to Tutorial on how to stain the banister and of course to see the Completely Finished Product!! 😉

Goodbye 2018…Hello 2019

Our Year in Review: 2018 Top Blog Posts

It’s hard to believe that 2018 is coming to an end. Jen and I launched our blog September 28th and it has been a crazy, amazing, exciting, sometimes overwhelming adventure ever since. Can you believe it has only been 3 months?? We can’t either!! Time has flown by and we have loved bringing to life all our DIY projects and tutorials, renovations, and just sharing our homes with all of you. We have learned a lot in the process and I am sure have lots more to learn…but through all of it the best part has been connecting with our readers and hearing about your projects and hopefully inspiring others to add a little DIY into their lives.

Here are a few of our favorite blog posts so far and a recap of the most popular with the readers over our first 3 months. We hope you have enjoyed ALL we have shared so far. There are lots of ideas floating around in our notebooks for the New Year, so be looking out for those. If you have a great idea for us, we would love to hear about it too. Let’s make 2019 a GREAT Year!!!

DIY Teacher Gifts

It’s that time of year to thank all the amazing people who help support our children and help them grow. Teachers do so much for our children all year it is really nice to thank them, especially at the holidays for all their hard work and patience. It is so difficult to come up with new and creative ideas each year for the teachers. The standard go-to gifts are always appreciated by the teachers, but sometimes it is fun to get creative.

This year, I am working on a DIY Personalized Wooden Pencil Holder. I actually bought one of these off of Etsy a few years back for one of my amazing teachers and thought to myself ~Hey, I could totally make this myself…if I had the time of course. Well, this is the year! This would also be a great gift for Teacher Appreciation Week or End of the Year Gift.

So…Let’s Get Creating! 😉
