Who doesn’t love switching out their decor each season? Or maybe, you wish you could add more season decor through out your house but don’t know what to use. Decorative pillows are always a great option for seasonal decor, Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving, Fall, Winter, Christmas, Spring…the options are really endless throughout the entire year. Jen, has a great tutorial on the bottom for creating seasonal pillow with the Cricut.
This is a new one we’ve discovered and is moving quickly to one of our favorites. How cute and personal when you show up at the front door! Plain door mats are so much cheaper and this really makes your mat a one of a kind. Doormats are also great decorating pieces for seasonal decor and staging.
T-shirts are so fun. It is super easy to make your own custom shirt; add your favorite funny saying, or represent your kids sport’s team, or even support your favorite bachelor contestant. 😉 The possibilities are endless and they also make amazing gifts!!
Adding decals really adds a personal touch to all your signs and decor. Any quote, name, theme is really at your finger tips. Who doesn’t love having something no one else has?
Party decor is one of our favorite things to use the cricket for. We’ve used it for kids birthday parties and it’s also super helpful for school parties. I can’t tell you how many school parties we’ve thrown and had to cut out so many templates. This tool makes your life a little easier and everything always looks more professional.
The cricut can seem pretty intimidating at first, but there is something so exciting about making your own stuff…Yes, it is easy to just buy pillows and t-shirts, but where is the fun in that?? Some projects on the cricut take more time than others, but the projects we listed above can be super fast and easy.
Here is a quick tutorial on creating a holiday pillow case in about 30 minutes.
First start off by designing your pillow in the Cricut App on the iPad or Computer. You can use cricut downloaded fonts or characters and there are lots of project ideas with instructions included in the app. I usually just buy my images through the app or use the free ones, but you can download images off the internet onto your computer and import them into the app as well. There are also lots of people who sell downloads on etsy or through Pinterest.
Once your design is done, press the green button that says Make It. That will take you to another screen where the mats will be laid out. When working with iron-on be sure to Mirror the Image (there is a slide button). I have learned the hard too many times to count!!! Also, with iron-on place the shiny side down on the mat so the cut will be on the back side not on the clear top.
Now to cut the iron-on. For this pillow, I had to cut 3 different colors, so I loaded the mat and cut the first one and so forth. Once all 3 were finished, I cut around iron-on cuts the cricut make with scissors. Then weeded the negative space around what I was designing. Leaving my design on the clear plastic.
Next, put the pillow on an ironing board or cricut press pad and line up your design to make sure everything fits right. Then remove it and warm the area on the pillow with the cricut press or an iron for 15 seconds. Place your design on the warmed area and place the press/iron on top and press the button for 30 seconds. Hold the press with light pressure. There are different temperatures for different materials so just double check that information before you use the cricut press. If using an iron the processes is similar it just takes a little longer to cover all the area. My pillow had layers so I did this step 3 times with each layer. Next flip the pillow over and put the press/iron over the back for another 15 seconds or so. Peel off the plastic cover and double check all the edges are secure.
There you have it, a quick, easy, and one-of-a kind pillow…
If you have a cricut, what are some of your favorite projects…we would love to hear about them!!!
